In present day we have the knowledge and capability to feed everyone in the world. Why aren't we improving on this to stop world hunger?.
With the population expected to increase 35% by 2050 and our cropping land decreasing we need to figure something out on how to feed everyone in the world.
The thing is that we might actually already have figured to this problem out. The answer, GMO's.
Since the FDA approved the production of GMO's (Genetic Modified Organisms) in 1982 the number of Hungry people around the globe dropped from 942 to 786 million, a 16% drop, which also means that the total food available per person in the world rose by 11%. thats a tremendous drop in number of hungry people and its all only because of GMO's.
With the uprising world population we also need to focus on our Supply and Demand line of food. Without GMO's we would fall behind this line. The United Nations predicts that by 2050, humans will need to produce 70% more food than we currently do in order to adequately feed the global population. This also comes with a bigger problem because we are losing a huge amount of land, Between 2002-2012 our Cropping land decrease 73 million acres (USDA) Meaning that while the population is expected to increase to 9.7 billion by 2050 we are also losing land. This is where GMO's play a big role because we could use them to produce large amounts of food in small portions of land.
In today’s world the population is increasing by every year meaning the shortage of food will start to increase with time. GMO’s can help level the supply and demand level of food in the future and help decrease the percentage of hunger in the future. We need to focus more in elaborating GMO’s and possibly the CRISPR- CAS9, this two Genetic Engineering methods might be our only solution to keep the world feed in the future.
